About the IT Sector

  • It was established on the 31st of March 2023 as a result of the reorganisation of AGH units within the IT area.
  • It is an auxiliary unit according to §30 (1) para. 1) of the AGH Statute.
  • It functions in the Rector's Division and reports directly to the Rector.
  • It performs operational activities in the area of broadly understood informatization (digitization) at AGH.
  • The IT Sector is managed by the Chief Information Officer affairs appointed by the Rector and reporting directly to the Rector.

The Rector's Committee for Informatisation exercises the role of the IT Sector Council as an advisory, initiating and opinion-making body.

The tasks of the IT Sector Council include:

  • giving an opinion on the directions of development of IT Sector operations,
  • analysing and evaluating the possibility of using the resources and competencies existing in the University's structures,
  • giving an opinion on structural solutions to the way the IT Sector operates,
  • evaluating the activities of the IT Sector.

  1. The Chief Information Officer is responsible for the operational management in the area of the informatisation of the University.
  2. Main tasks of the Chief Information Officer affairs include:
    • management of IT Sector units under the terms of the law, including the internal law of the AGH University,
    • disposition of funds allocated for activities related to informatisation and operation of the IT Sector, according to the material and financial plan of the AGH University,
    • organisation of ongoing activities in the area of informatisation,
      distribution of tasks and competencies among the units of the IT Sector, including the establishment of task forces,
    • organisational and substantive supervision of the implementation of the tasks of the IT Sector units,
    • submitting proposals to the Rector on the organisation and operation of the IT Sector,
    • issuing decisions, under the authority of the Rector, for units or users, regarding the University's ICT security policies,
    • presenting the results of analysis and suggestions to the University authorities and organisational units for use in planning the development of the University's informatisation,
    • presentation of annual reports on the activities of IT Sector units to the Rector.
       
  3. The Chief Information Officer, in particular:
    • is the supervisor of all IT Sector employees,
    • approves permanent and ad hoc scopes of tasks and responsibilities for subordinate employees, especially IT Sector executives,
    • conducts human resources and payroll policies in IT Sector units,
    • is responsible for the preparation of the draft material and financial plan for the IT Sector and its implementation,
    • is responsible for implementing financial plans for tasks and projects in the area of informatisation,
    • plans and supervises the rational use of the premises resources of IT Sector units.
  • Organisation and implementation of activities related to informatisation of the University and coordination of activities carried out by organisational units.
  • Organisation and implementation of activities on increasing the level of information security
    and cyber security at the University and coordination of activities implemented by the
    organisational units.
  • Coordination and implementation of planning and project work involving new scopes of IT support for University management.
  • Assignment of tasks in the area of informatisation of the university to organisational units, to be performed by said units.
  • Management of IT infrastructure and ICT security of the University.
  • Implementation, maintenance and development of central IT solutions.
  • Planning, coordination and implementation of activities related to the development of the University's IT infrastructure.
  • Recommendation of purchasing decisions related to the informatisation and development of the University's IT infrastructure to the University Authorities, as well as their coordination and implementation.
  • Analysing the needs of the University related to digital transformation and recommending solutions to the University Authorities.
  • Analysing the University's needs related to enhancing information security and cyber security, including in terms of legal and contractual requirements.
  • Providing counsel and service activities to the University Authorities and its units in the field of management, informatisation, design, implementation and maintenance of IT solutions.
  • Maintenance of systems supporting AGH information services.
  • Planning, coordination and implementation of central software purchases.
  • Coordinating and executing the work of defining guidelines and creating policies, development and operation of IT infrastructure in business units and their implementation in the organisation.
  • Conducting market analysis of IT equipment and systems services.
  • Conducting analyses of the needs of the entire University and its organisational units related to the development of IT infrastructure,
  • Analysis and monitoring of risks related to the University's informatisation.
  • Providing opinions on the purchase of software by units.
